Blue Skies

Founded in 1997 by a British entrepreneur, Blue Skies are multi-award winning producers of fresh-cut fruit, freshly squeezed juice & ice cream. At peak, Blue Skies employs over 4,000 people globally and works with 100s of farms across Africa and South America to supply our fresh cut fruit, ice cream and juice around the world. We believe in ‘Adding Value at Source’. This means we aim to make the finished product in the country or region where the fruit is grown. By doing this we return more value to the communities that produce our fruit, and we can deliver products that are Fresh from Harvest. Blue Skies supplies many food retailers in Europe from its 10 factories, mainly in Africa. Logistics in Africa can be difficult and expensive and Blue Skies recognises the huge opportunities afforded by the Airlander programme.

"Blue Skies operates in Africa to produce fruit salad products for the supermarkets of Europe. Moving products and raw materials between countries, particularly in West Africa, can be difficult due to challenging roads conditions, border delays and a measure of bureaucracy. Blue Skies is very interested in Airlander as it will enable the business to move raw materials from farms to factories with greater efficiency and with a vastly reduced carbon footprint."

"We are developing various wind farm proposals in Scotland and Wales where the existing road network has limited capacity to accommodate the transportation of large blades. By using the Airlander concept, these challenges can be overcome. We will be able to deploy larger and more efficient turbines whilst also reducing costs and limiting any negative impact on local residents."
