Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), a UK-based leader in sustainable aircraft technology, is proud to announce its membership in the Skies and Seas Hydrogen-fuels Accelerator Coalition (SASHA) – a cross-sector alliance uniting leaders in aviation and maritime transport to champion the role of green hydrogen in the decarbonisation of these two sectors.

Airlander will play a significant role in the pathway to zero-emissions aviation as an early and safe testbed for the use of hydrogen as a fuel. It is planned that an all-electric Airlander 10 will be available from 2030, using electric engines powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Airlander exemplifies the kind of innovation SASHA was formed to accelerate.

“When I saw Tom Grundy, Hybrid Air Vehicles’ CEO, speak at the Sustainable Aviation Futures Congress in May, it was hard not to be compelled by his impressive work. HAV is a source of true innovation in flight technology, requiring surprisingly little infrastructure, cost-competitive off the bat, and a clear and credible roadmap to zero carbon emission flight. It’s for just those reasons that the SASHA Coalition is a perfect fit for HAV. We’re building a powerful cross-industry collective of frontrunner green aviation and shipping companies to show policymakers how uneven the playing field is for these leaders set to be the future of decarbonised transport. HAV’s technology might be a first in the Coalition, but the challenge it faces is shared across our membership: a policy landscape that disproportionately advantages unsustainable incumbent technologies and fossil fuels. But our coalition does not just shine for its robust understanding of the problems faced, but also the sharp, evidence-based policies that would allow them to flourish, developed through our members’ incisive expertise. I’m thrilled to have Tom, and the HAV team join us in paving the road towards zero carbon emission flights.”

“NGOs like SASHA are critical as the world slowly moves towards a net zero future. They champion, through policy, what is needed to transition to a world where green hydrogen is available for aviation and shipping – both incredibly hard sectors to abate. I look forward to working with the team to influence and help shape the policy frameworks required.”

HAV joins SASHA’s growing network of climate-forward organisations working to secure a just and effective transition to net zero transport. Through this collaboration, HAV aims to contribute its technical insight and real-world experience to the development of supportive policy frameworks that enable sustainable aviation to thrive.
